…Oh My!
Have you taken a day trip to the Moonridge Animal Park while visiting us? If not, you should, it is quite the experience. Moonridge is a smaller zoo, with approximately 160 animals, representing around 80 species. These animals have been given a “Home for Life”, after being rescued from an assortment of situations.
The Moonridge Animal Park came to life in 1959 after devastating fires ripped though the mountains, injuring many animals, and destroying their homes. Unfortunately, for some of those animals, returning to the wild was not an option, and Moonridge was developed. Since then, they have continued to grow. “Primarily a zoological facility, Moonridge Animal Park also is a fully licensed, designated care and rehabilitation facility for injured or confiscated animals. Annually, at least 200 injured wild birds and animals are treated here. Over the years, thousands of injured, orphaned, or behaviorally handicapped wildlife have come to Moonridge Animal Park. The majority of animals rehabilitated at the Park have been successfully released to the wild.”
You can even adopt a pet for $25. That money helps feed the animals and give them a “Home for Life”. You leave with your very own photo of the animal, and a fact sheet about it.
So take some time out of your day, and head on down, for a truly unique experience. The memories that are made after seeing these animals as up close as you do, is something to remember for a lifetime.

Imagine, you pick up a pretty vase, or an antique step stool, decide to get it appraised and learn that you got an extreme discount on a valuable piece of history?! Well the Big Bear Yard Sale weekend is just around the corner, and that means it’s time to shop ’til you drop, turning other people’s trash into treasures!
“Mark your calendar for Memorial Day weekend, July 4th weekend and Labor Day weekend. While the whole country celebrates with picnics and parades, Big Bear Lake celebrates with yard sales, antique markets and craft shows. Memorial Day weekend is by far the biggest yard sale weekend with locals clearing out their closets and putting their trash to treasure on the market in their driveways or yards. Both Memorial Day and July 4th weekends find the Elks club opening their doors for their annual Peddlers Market Antiques and Collectibles Show. Each of the holiday weekends brings a large craft show to the Convention Center as well.” – bigbear.us/antiques.html

Take the Polar Plunge, and help to raise a $20,000 goal benefiting the Special Olympics Southern California – Inland Empire Region! Participants of the Polar Plunge will race into the frigid waters of Big Bear Lake. Each Plunger sets their personal goal of how deep they want to go, from just ankles wet, to going in all the way. Be invigorated like never before!
Individuals who take the Polar Plunge challenge are asked to raise at least $50 through pledges from family, friends and co-workers. Participants who reach this goal will get an official Polar Plunge t-shirt. Special Olympics supporters who prefer to stay out of the water can opt to register as a “Chicken.” They receive an “I’m too Chicken to Plunge” t-shirt, which helps raise money for the Special Olympics charity. Additional prizes are given to people who raise more than $50, and also for those with the most creative costumes. “All it takes is a few seconds in the chilly water for plungers to discover why we refer to it as Freezin’ for a Reason,” said Special Olympics Southern California Regional Director Abbey Leffler. “They will immediately feel their hearts warm-up with joy because they know they are giving to a great cause. Nothing is too cold for a warm heart!”

1) Recognize it. Report it. Fraud by telephone, Internet and mail is a very serious issue. If a telemarketer has contacted you or if you have been defrauded, consider contacting the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at www.ftc.gov or call 1.877.FTC.HELP.
2) You have a choice about receiving telemarketing calls. Please consider registering your telephone numbers, including wireless numbers, on the national “Do-Not-Call” Registry. To register call 1.888.382.1222. You must call from the telephone number you wish to register or register online at www.donotcall.gov.
3) Ask for the name of the company, and the city and state they do business in. Verify information through the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division in that state. It is generally a toll-free number. In addition, we recommend you consider the following:
a. Never pay “upfront” fees to anyone offering to sell your timeshare;
b. Nevergive your credit card number or other personal information to strangers; and,
c. Never be afraid to ask a lot questions.
